Our Agenda

People have been urging L. Neil Smith to seek the Libertarian Party's nomination for the presidency for years. As the most prolific living libertarian writer, a dynamic speaker, and an unswerving advocate of freedom, he's a natural frontman for our cause.

On the 4th of July, 1999, Smith announced that he intended to run -- provided that he could garner substantial support -- as an independent. As a means of gauging the potential support, he set a goal of obtaining one million endorsements.  For more information on Smith's decision to run as an independent, see his statement.

In the same statement, Smith also noted that, while he doesn't intend to seek the LP nomination, that he will accept it if those of us who prefer to see him on the Party's ticket are willing to make it happen.

That is precisely what we intend to do.

Not long before the 4th of July announcement, a few of us who want to see Neil nominated formed The Ad Hoc Conspiracy to Draft L. Neil Smith. We started off as an informal working group, soliciting support on a few libertarian mailing lists and newsgroups. We're in the process of forming a more coherent organization, and our agenda looks something like this:

This agenda may be revised from time to time to reflect the inevitable changes brought on by events as they happen, but the above are the core elements of our cause. If you'd like to help, the first step is endorsing L. Neil Smith's candidacy. After that, return to the AHCtDLNS Home Page -- we've got more activities and resources available than Theodore Roosevelt could shake his big stick at.

Sincerely,
Thomas L. Knapp
